UAMS requires fit testing for employees who wear N95 respirators because they are tight-fitting
devices. Annual training and fit tests are also required to monitor changes in your facial
structure or ability to wear a respirator.
Please follow the steps below to prepare for fit testing. You’ll receive email reminders about
annual training and fit tests.
Please wait until you receive email notification your medical clearance has been granted before
going to OH&S for your respirator fit test and hands on training (Step 3). The wait period is
usually a minimum of 24 hours from the time you submit your questionnaire.
Re-evaluation is required:
Every two years when you’re 45 or older.
Every three years when you’re 35-44 years old.
Every five years when you’re 34 or younger.
Every year if you have an existing medical condition or develop one that
requires annual examination.
Step 2: You must complete respirator training before being fit tested.
Complete and pass the N95 Respirator Safety training in
Workday Learning.
You must be fit tested within 90 days of completing the training.
NOTE: Completed N95 training requires 24 hours to post to the fit testing database. If you are attempting to be fit tested on the day your training is completed, please print your completion certificate and bring it with you to the lab.
Step 3: Fit tests are required for the use of any tight-fitting facepiece respirators.
