AMS Half Face/Full Face Respirator Approval Process
UAMS requires fit testing for employees who wear half face or full face respirators because
they are tight-fitting devices. Annual training and fit tests are also required to monitor
changes in your facial structure or ability to wear a respirator.
Please follow the steps below to prepare for fit testing. You’ll receive email reminders about
annual training and fit tests.
Contact Employee and Student Health Services at
501-686-6565
to schedule a respirator physical.
Please wait until you receive email notification your medical clearance has been granted before
going to OH&S for your respirator fit test and hands on training (Step 3). The wait period is
usually a minimum of 24 hours from the time you submit your questionnaire.
Re-evaluation is required:
Every two years when you’re 45 or older.
Every three years when you’re 35-44 years old.
Every five years when you’re 34 or younger.
Every year if you have an existing medical condition or develop one that
requires annual examination.
Step 2: You must complete respirator training before being fit tested.
Complete and pass the Half Face/Full Face Respirator training in
Workday Learning.
You must be fit tested within 90 days of completing the training.
Step 3: Fit tests are required for the use of any tight-fitting
facepiece respirators.
