The UAMS Project Management office is a centralized team of project management professionals who oversee IT, operational and process improvement projects.
Whether you need to open a new clinic or fine-tune processes for your unit or program, the PMO can help you serve your patients or customers by working more efficiently, with less waste and fewer errors.
To ask IT Services to create or modify a product or service, complete a New Project Request form in ServiceNow.
We define projects as temporary work efforts with a clear beginning and end. Each New Project Request goes through an assessment to determine its viability. If needed, requests then go to the appropriate IT governance committee, which decides their priority and determines the availability of resources.
ServiceNow sends emails to the people who submit New Project Requests to keep them updated on every step of the governance, or review and approval, process.
Operational projects launch new programs or services, such as opening a new clinical unit. For example, the PMO provided project management services for the operation of a new child development center.
In performance improvement projects, PMO project managers review processes and suggest improvements to workflows that increase efficiency and reduce errors. They can also help to develop standard operating procedures and new workflows for clinics or other areas at UAMS.
The PMO’s UAMS customers often ask us to review processes in clinics or other areas and offer suggestions for improvements. Our project managers use two well-known project management methodologies to help their customers improve processes:
