Long Term Difficulties:
Students suffering from major mental illnesses and/or
severe substance addiction requiring inpatient
hospitalization and/or intensive long term care will be
referred to a community mental health center, the UAMS
Psychiatric Clinic, or to appropriate resources in the
community. The cost for this level of care is the
responsibility of the student (it is important to maintain
health insurance coverage without lapse through school).
For students who have been diagnosed with
ADHD or think that they may have ADHD, the Student Wellness Program has a
policy that requires these students to either present past
neuropsychological testing or be tested by a neuropsychologist.
This policy is
necessary to protect students who may use stimulants as a drug of abuse.
These medications are
highly regulated by the FDA and as such we prescribe these only to students
who absolutely need them.
