ANNOUNCING:

EXCITING EXPANSION OF MEDICAL GENETICS

AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS FOR MEDICAL SCIENCES

 

New Positions Open for:
(2) Pediatric Clinical Geneticists (all ranks considered)
(2) Adult Clinical Geneticists (assistant / associate professor)
(3) Genetic Counselors (BC/BE)
 
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences has made the commitment for expansion of Medical Genetics activities in Arkansas. The University has established a new Division of Genetics in the College of Medicine with the goal of expansion towards the formation of a free-standing Department of Genetics within in the College. In addition, the Department of Pediatrics, has committed to significant expansion of the Section of Genetics and Metabolism at the Arkansas Children's Hospital.
 
The current Genetics section has 2 clinical geneticists and 1 genetic counselor. UAMS has an independent Department of Genetic Counseling with 8 additional counselors. The section has close ties to the Arkansas Department of Health Newborn Screening Program and the Arkansas Birth Defects Center for Research and Prevention.  Arkansas will be adding expanded newborn screening (MS/MS, CF, CAH) July 2008. Part of the expansion will be to meet the needs of the state with the introduction expanded screening. In addition Arkansas Children's Hospital also has a treatment facility for lysosomal disorders.
 
The vision for expansion is a comprehensive program for clinical genetic activities to include patient care, participation on interdisciplinary teams, outreach (including telehealth), education interacting at all levels (students, residents, graduate students) for all UAMS colleges, and the establishment of a graduate program.
