Information for Physicians
The physicians of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology want to provide
our patients with the latest development in medicine in a compassionate, caring,
environment. The faculty of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology offer a
wide range of basic and specialized care for women during pregnancy. Each member
of our highly skilled faculty is devoted to providing excellent care to all
patients to ensure a healthy outcome for mothers and their babies.
The reputation of our physicians is underscored by their top ranking in
surveys such as The
Best Doctors in America (Best Doctors Inc).
Routine obstetrical care at UAMS is primarily provided by our division of
General Obstetrics and Gynecology. For those women with no obstetrical
complications, the General OB/GYN group will be their primary physicians.
However, for some women, special needs arise either before or during pregnancy
that require additional care from
Maternal-Fetal Medicine subspecialists. These
MFM physicians focus on managing complicated pregnancies. Those patients with
either a newly diagnosed obstetrical complication or those with a medical
history potentially complicating their current pregnancy, will be managed by the
Maternal-Fetal Medicine faculty or co-managed jointly by the General OB/GYN
physicians and the MFM subspecialists. Our Board Certified MFM subspecialists at
UAMS provide care to patients at both a primary and a referral level.
UAMS Medical Center provides a state of the art
Labor and Delivery service to
make the uncomplicated delivery a pleasant and memorable experience for the
patient and her family. At the same time, the
L&D suite is capable of handling
the most complicated pregnancies and provides the patient with the reassurance
that she and her baby are being delivered in the safest environment possible.
The faculty physicians
work closely and cooperatively with the highly skilled
anesthesiologists, pediatric subspecialists and internists including
cardiologists, endocrinologists, nephrologists and others.
The UAMS faculty serve as the primary educators for
residents specializing in
Obstetrics and Gynecology. To keep clinical practice up to date, the faculty
also engage in clinical and laboratory research, participate in multi-center
clinical trials, lecture around the state and nationally on special areas of
expertise, and serve as examiners at the American Board of Obstetrics and
Gynecology.
