Cynthia Pitcock is Associate
Professor in the Division of Medical Humanities at UAMS. She earned the MAT at
Vanderbilt University on a Ford Foundation Grant before receiving a Ph.D. in
history from the University of Memphis. Dr. Pitcock teaches two senior
electives: From Sects to Science: the History of Medicine in America and
William Osler: Genesis of Modern Medicine.
Dr. Pitcock has contributed papers to many historical and health care
journals, including the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology
and the Journal of the History of Medicine and Allied Science. She
has made numerous presentations on the history of medicine to clinical
faculty at schools of medicine and has presented papers at national and
international meetings. She was recently named to the Board of Directors of
the American Osler Society, the first woman to hold that position. She is an
overseas Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, London and on the
Executive Board of the International Society for the History of Medicine.
