Charles Anderson received a BA in English from Texas Lutheran College, a Master
of Arts in College Teaching from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and a
PhD in English from the University of Iowa. He received the UALR Teaching with
Technology Award for Best Practices in a Fully Online Class in 2003. Dr.
Anderson received the University Wide
Faculty Excellence Award for Teaching from UALR in 1996. As Teacher of the Year,
he spoke at the 1997 commencement ceremony. He offers a senior elective at UAMS
in Literature and Medicine.
Dr. Anderson has published two books and edited a special issue of the
journal Literature and Medicine. He is currently at work on a third book.
He is a widely recognized authority on the work of surgeon-writer Richard Selzer
and on the topic of writing and healing. He has contributed articles and book
chapters on several topics in the medical humanities and has presented lectures
