As the state-wide referral center for high-risk obstetrical
care, Womens Services include five in-patient units and two out-patient
clinics located off campus at the Pulaski County Health Unit and the Freeway
Medical Towers. The Mother Baby/ Womens Health 14-bed unit provides non-complicated
care to patients rapidly recuperating to begin the bonding process through couplet
care and high-risk obstetrical and gynecological patients with benign conditions.
Nursing education focuses on the parenting role and fosters the optimum mother/infant
interaction and supportive teaching to the patient and family. A small nursery,
adjacent to the unit provides a transitional nursery to couplet
care.
Labor & Delivery
Our new Labor and Delivery unit located in the Harry P. Ward
Clinical Tower consists of 11 LDRP rooms, four observation beds located in the
triage area, two operating rooms, and a four bed recovery room to greater than
200 deliveries per month. The LDRP rooms allow the expectant mother to labor, deliver,
and recover in the birthing suites with family support. Post-delivery, parents
are allowed the opportunity to bond with their newborn. Two state of the art
Neonatal Stabilization rooms are located on the Labor and Delivery unit and are
used to stabilize acutely ill neonates with specially trained staff from the
Intensive Care Nursery.
Intensive Care Nursery
The 19-bed Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) provides care to
neonates ranging from early gestation to acutely ill full-term newborns.
The 30-bed Specialty Care Nursery provides care to newborns from term to
moderately ill neonates up to and including discharges from the ICN. Our
new state of the art 10-bed Neonatal Critical Care Nursery offers care to
the premature infant. The latest developmental and technological care combined
with the expertise of our dedicated physicians and nurses allow the Nurseries
to provide World
Class Care! All Womens Services collaborate as partners to standardize
care and educational offerings including childbirth classes, clinical pathways
and follow up for
early discharge.
