Research & Scholarly Interests
Research interests include the effect of alcohol exposure on the development of the cerebellum. Our laboratory utilizes a rat model system involving alcohol exposure during postnatal days 4-6. This model is equivalent to human exposure during the early third trimester and in the rat, results in significant loss of cerebellar Purkinje neurons. Our studies explore the mechanisms of damage to Purkinje neurons and cerebellar circuits with a focus on the status and continued development of the cerebellar structures that have survived the alcohol exposure.
