Circle of Excellence Comments and Patient Stories

The College of Medicine Circle of Excellence Committee is dedicated to supporting the campus wide initiative of providing “comfort, hope and healing for our patients and families.” We are literally in the process of changing our culture at UAMS to a more patient, family and employee-friendly place.   The committee was established to encourage and help implement this culture change.  The group began meeting on August 6, 2008, but its effect can already be seen across campus:

  1. A pilot project for attending physicians, residents and fellows has begun The physicians are given business cards that have a photo of the doctor and their contact information, as well as a definition of their role on the care team.  These cards are helping patients and families get questions answered and clarify what is often a very confusing array of health care providers during hospitalizations.

  2. UAMS recently served over 20 hurricane Gustav patients and families during their hospital stay following their transfer from the New Orleans area. Members of the COM COE organized a collection that resulted in Reddie delivering gift bags with various items to the patients and families.

  3. The COE committee has also been an integral part of planning and implementing  the new physician call center, in revamping the UAMS transfer policy and in various other tasks designed to improve the care process.

The committee members of the COM COE are proud to play a role in providing “comfort, hope and healing for our patients and families.”
